Athawale’s supporters attacked the office of TV channel Colors

Republican Party of India (RPI) president Ramdas Athawale’s supporters on Tuesday attacked the office of TV channel ‘Colors’, alleging he was dropped from its reality show Bigg Boss-2 because of being a Dalit.

A group of RPI activists stormed the channel office in suburban Andheri and damaged furnitures, police said.
The parliamentarian’s supporters barged into the offices of the newly opened channel in Andheri East and broke windowpanes, damaged furniture and fittings inside and outside the premises.

Around 500 RPI workers staged a roadblock outside the office on the busy Andheri-Kurla road, which leads to the airport, and also burnt an effigy of actor Shilpa Shetty who is hosting the show.

The group was protesting against the private channel for the ‘injustice’ to Athawale, who heads the largest faction of the RPI, they added.

Athawale, a Lok Sabha MP from Pandharpur, has threatened to move the court, alleging he was dropped from the reality show because of his caste. Athawale said his name had been finalised by the channel but later dropped.
